During the first full week in October for Mental Illness Awareness Week, NAMI Racine County, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Racine County, will host a candidate forum addressing mental health policy issues.
NAMI Racine County, in partnership with the Wisconsin Disability Vote Coalition, is proud to sponsor a Mental Health Candidate Forum on the evening of Monday, October 8th from 6:30-8:00pm at the Racine YMCA – Lake Ave. This event is open to the public and will feature Wisconsin legislators and legislative candidates from Assembly Districts 62, 63, 66 and 83, and Senate Districts 21 and 22.
Topics to be covered include: access to treatment; perspectives on expanding the mental health workforce in Wisconsin; alternatives to incarceration for people living with mental illness; youth mental health services; and insurance parity. Racine Journal Times Managing Editor, Stephanie Jones, will moderate the forum and pose questions to all participants. There will also be an opportunity for audience questions at the end of the forum as well as voter registration assistance on site.
